We’ve come across this situation already in this Lent devotional, only we focused more on Peter’s remarks than what Jesus said to those who would follow after him. Turning away from the world’s way to the Way through Christ will bring rejection. What we do with that rejection is extremely important.

Will we allow the fear of being rejected to keep us from talking about Jesus? Will we keep him in our private lives only, because we worry about what someone else will think or how they will reject us? In this passage, Jesus compels us not to hold back in our love and devotion to him. Let’s not be ashamed of who Jesus is, let’s not be ashamed of what he has done for us, and let’s not be ashamed of who we are in Christ.

Lord, help us to live with boldness. Help us to grow closer to Jesus, but not just to keep him as ours and ours alone. Help us to share the amazing ways life is forever changed because of Jesus. Amen.
