Have you ever felt lost in a situation? Somehow everyone else knows what’s going on, but you must have “missed the memo.” Or maybe there was this whole conversation going on, and somehow you missed the most important part that described what everyone was talking about.
If you’ve ever felt that way, you probably know how uncomfortable it is. It doesn’t matter so much if you missed the details because you didn’t hear them, or weren’t present for them, or just weren’t paying attention. In the end, it still leaves a person feeling pretty awkward to say the least.
The Pharisees in our passage know a bit about that feeling too. They missed the memo and were lost with the topic. They missed the signs pointing to the Messiah, they missed the Scriptures that talked about his miracles, and they even missed the prophecies that pointed to how he would be treated.
In their case, it wasn’t about missing a detail or not paying attention to what they experienced. They missed all these things because they refused to believe in Jesus. Nearly everybody else around them got it. They understood, at least a little, of what God was doing through Jesus.
We don’t want to be in a situation where we’ve missed something about Jesus and feel lost in the topic, and we sure don’t want to actively reject Jesus, but there are plenty of people who are in that very spot. The way we live out our faith can help clear the confusion.
For those who missed something along the way, we can help fill in the details by our words and actions. For those who actively reject Jesus, we can clear the air through our actions and love. God works in amazing ways, and quite often He works through the way we point to Jesus. Be like Jesus, and the world around you can catch a glimpse of who Jesus is. Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, help us to be like Jesus. Help us to point to Your love, Your mercy, and Your forgiveness through the way we live our faith. Guide us as we grow closer to Jesus so we might be used by You to help guide others to know Jesus, too. Amen.
