35th Day of Lent, March 30, 2026 – John 12:1-8
The setting is a meal at Lazarus’ house, with Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha. Yes, Lazarus had recently been brought back to life by Jesus. They were sharing stories, enjoying a meal; there was an atmosphere of gratitude and love.
Mary showing love with an expensive gift; Judas upset over the waste of a valuable possession. Do we, too, place too much emphasis on material possessions over acts of kindness?
A story today of a person selfishly donating a large portion of their savings to a cause they believe in despite the criticism from those who questioned the practicality of this gesture. This act of generosity and faith could spark a chain reaction of positive change. This verse is a challenge to us to examine our devotion, to be more like Mary.
