The last verse of Matthew 3 is at the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist.  God says, “This is my son, who I love and am well pleased.”   The passage from Matthew 4 illustrates Jesus’ victory over temptation. Jesus also refused to use his divine power for personal gain. The response by Jesus to the devil is the exact same verse from Deuteronomy 6:9. It shows us Jesus’ unwavering faith and obedience to God’s word in lieu of challenge and temptation.
