John 1:19-34 <- Click to read now
Asking questions is a good thing. By seeking answers to the questions we have, we can learn and grow. Questions aren’t quite so good when we use them to further our own agenda. Maybe that’s just my opinion, but I believe questions out of curiosity will always be better than questions with ulterior motives. It seems those who were sent out to ask John these questions had already made up their minds. “If you’re not this person or that person, you have no right to be doing what you’re doing.” Do you ever wonder what it would have been like if these religious leaders actually listened to John’s response? I do. I imagine Scripture would look quite different in regard to the Pharisees and religious leaders. May we be a people who ask questions to learn and grow, and who ask questions to help others learn and grow as well.
Heavenly Father, help us all in our desire to grow closer to Jesus. When we struggle, help us to ask the right questions. When others struggle and perhaps ask us questions about our faith, help us to provide genuine answers that will bring You glory and point to our Savior. Amen.
