6th Day of Lent, February 24, 2026 – Matthew 6:16-18
Our passage is from the Sermon on the Mount, which spans chapters 5, 6 and 7. It comes just after Jesus spoke about forgiving others and storing up treasures in heaven. These verses teach fasting is to be done with sincerity and humility. Seek Gods approval rather than human recognition; inner devotion versus outer appearances. We will see a similar passage in the Old Testament, found in Isaiah 58:3-7. Fasting isn’t about abstaining but about cutting out distractions and seeking a stronger connection to God.
