6th Sunday in Lent, March 29, 2026Matthew 21:1-11

A Christian celebration that is over 2000 years old.  America is 250 years old this year.

Jerusalem was packed with people that day. Estimates of 2.5 million. It was a celebration to honor Passover – an event where the Jews were freed from slavery 8n Egypt by the Pharoah. They left Egypt for the Promised Land. Slaves for over 400 years then, but on this day all adult males within 20 miles of Jerusalem were required to attend. Jesus had passed through Jericho , then 17 miles, up 3000 feet in elevation to Jerusalem. Not an easy walk. Yet, well planned. The entrance was an act of defiance and courage – a deliberate claim that He was King!

With all the miracles that Jesus had performed, after each He told the people not to say anything. It was for their safety as Jesus not always welcome.

But, today, no more secrets. On symbols, a horse was a symbol of war.  A donkey; a symbol of peace.

In 2 Kings 9, there is a similar description.

Hosanna s meaning is in Psalm 118:25-26.

Originally a cry for help, 2 Samuel and 2 Kings, where it was Save Us!

Today, let us demonstrate a heart of humility that reflects the character of Christ, by treating others with love and respect and acknowledging the greatness of God!

It means surrendering our pride, selfless desires, and needs for control. Instead, we embrace humility that allows God to work through us for His glory!!

Hosanna!!  Save us!!

In the Highest!!
