John 9:13-34 <-Click to read now
Here we are again. In an attempt to reject Jesus, these Pharisees looked for any other possible explanation to what they were seeing, and how this man could now see. “It couldn’t have been from God, because it happened on the Sabbath. It couldn’t have been done by Jesus, maybe this man was never blind.” Even worse, they used their power and influence to threaten anyone who disagreed with them.
Explaining away the miraculous, abusing power, losing tempers; by golly I sure do feel like this could speak volumes about today. It might even bring to our minds some of the ways we’ve done these very things. Praise God, there is forgiveness and healing through the very one we so often reject. May we know and experience that forgiveness, and may we celebrate when healing and forgiveness takes place in others. Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, open our eyes to see Your goodness. Open our hearts to see the ways You are at work in situations we may never even expect. Help us to trust Your power and presence in the things we want to explain away as something else. And help us to bear witness to Your love, and to the love of Christ. Amen.
