Around 800 BC, the people of Israel had wronged the Lord.  They were facing punishment with locusts eating crops and a large army on the border ready to attack.  The people were gathered in a large square, praying and weeping.  Joel, a prophet, had called them to repent of their sins and bring God back into their hearts to save them from further harm.
