Lent is a time when we all as followers of Christ are encouraged to respond to the call Jesus has given us to turn from our own ways and to turn back to him. We do this through giving up the things that take our focus from Jesus, and entering into spiritual disciplines like reading God’s word, praying intently for His guidance, and allowing the words of Christ to mold and shape us.
Throughout the season of Lent, we will share Scriptures from the Gospels as they relate to those who rejected Jesus as their Messiah and chose to keep going down their own path.
These Bible passages are referenced in our devotional, “Jesus the Stranger,” by Kenneth J Collins. We’ll also share a brief reflection from Pastor Bruce and follow up with a prayer you can use, or you can certainly use your own words as you talk with our Heavenly Father.
We pray this helps remind you of our ever-present need to grow closer to Jesus so we can know him more and more each day. We also encourage you to share this with your Facebook friends. Perhaps these passages will be a reminder of their need to know Jesus more and more each day as well.
My reflection today is simply this: John was spot on. Not only did the world fail to recognize Jesus and His own people reject Him, but we have our own history with this very struggle. In this season of Lent, may we all see the ways we have struggled to recognize Jesus and accept His call on our lives. May we all see the ways Jesus is calling us into new life, and may we continue to know Him more and more as we trust in Him as our Savior.
